What is the purpose of the study?

The study explores how GP practices in Portsmouth support the inclusion and access of trans and non-binary people. The findings will help identify good practice and areas for improvement.


Participant Information

This survey is part of a doctoral research study being conducted by Sunitha Rajeev, a DrPH student at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), in collaboration with Healthwatch Portsmouth.


Why have I been invited and What does participation involve?

You are invited because you identify as trans or non-binary and are aged 18 or over.


You are being asked to complete a survey using SmartSurvey, a secure UK-based platform. T


he survey may also be available in paper format through trusted community organisations for

individuals who cannot access it digitally.


The survey takes approximately 5–15 minutes to complete and is designed to be completed in one sitting. 


Participation is voluntary. You may skip any question and may stop completing the survey at any time before submitting your responses. If you choose not to submit the survey, your responses will not be saved.


Confidentiality and Data Protection

The survey is anonymous. It does not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, or any direct personal identifiers. The record of your responses will only be accessible to the researcher and academic supervisor.


Survey data will be stored securely on LSHTM’s encrypted institutional servers. Data will be retained until completion of the DrPH degree and securely deleted within three months thereafter.


If identifiable information is voluntarily included in a free-text response, it will be removed during data cleaning to ensure anonymity.


How will the results be used?

The findings from this study will contribute to:

• A DrPH doctoral thesis submitted to the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

• A summary report for Healthwatch Portsmouth


The Healthwatch report may be shared with local stakeholders, including GP practices, Primary Care Networks, the Integrated Care Board, and Portsmouth City Council Public Health. The report may also be made publicly available on the Healthwatch Portsmouth website.


The findings may also be presented at professional or academic conferences and may be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

No individual will be identifiable in any report, presentation, or publication.
