Healthwatch Portsmouth has received feedback from people with communication needs and has been supporting them since then. We have spoken with NHS managers about how to protect their right to access health and care services.

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHUT) and Isle of Wight NHS Trust (IWT) have now drafted an Accessible Communication, Accessible Information & Interpreting Policy and are seeking feedback from the public.

If you have communication needs related to any of the following, please read the draft policy:

  • Disability

  • Sensory impairment

  • Learning disability

  • Cognitive impairment

  • Speech or language difficulties

  • Deafness, deaf blindness or people who use British Sign Language

  • Limited English proficiency

Read the draft policy here:

You can submit your feedback and advice by emailing the PHUT manager, Laura White, laura.white96@nhs.net before 9th October.

If you have any questions, please email us at info@healthwatchportsmouth.co.uk
