An update on podiatry services across the city: November 2020.
The Portsmouth city podiatry service provided by Solent NHS reviewed the location of its sites during 2019 . The proposal for change (which was amended based on patient feedback gathered last winter) was to have 4 sites operating across the city. The proposal was approved by the Portsmouth City Council’s Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee in March 2020.
The plan had been for Solent NHS Trust to write to all their NHS podiatry service patients to inform them of the arrangements following the review. Due to the constraints of PPE infection control to combat COVID-19 we have been informed by Solent NHS that they have only been able to offer their Podiatry Service in 2 of the 4 sites in which they had planned to re-launch their service. The two clinic sites, based at St Mary’s Hospital and in Cosham, and are able to offer a ‘Covid-secure’ environment to provide clinical assessment and treatment.
Solent NHS Trust have informed Healthwatch Portsmouth that they wish, at the earliest opportunity, to provide their Podiatry service at another two sites in Portsmouth as soon as they are given permission to run their clinics which do not require ‘Covid-secure’ social distancing arrangements to be in place for patients. Information and support by telephone is still available to patients using the podiatry service in the city.
