The Community Connector volunteer role is based with the Independence and Wellbeing Team which sits within Portsmouth's Adult Social Care service. The work focuses on supporting adults to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing to enable them to remain living independently in their homes and communities.

Objectives

To provide -

  • short term support for adults who wish to regain their confidence and independence by engaging with activities and resources in the community.
  • motivational support to enable service users to implement their goal plan

Tasks and activities to be undertaken

The role could involve a variety of opportunities e.g.

  • accompanying a service user to a gentle exercise class or social group
  • supporting a service user in gaining confidence to use local transport

You will be matched with service users according to your preferences and availability.

Personal Attributes for the Role

Volunteers must:

  • be aged 18 years or over
  • have good people skills and the ability to communicate and engage with a wide range of people
  • be able to actively listen
  • have a positive 'can do' attitude
  • be non-judgemental and respectful
  • be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • be prepared to undertake a small amount of record keeping

Who the volunteer reports to

Volunteers will be fully supported in their role by a Community Connectors member of staff.

Location and work hours

Volunteers will be working in the community and will need to be free to commit at least 2-3 hours on a weekly basis to support a service user to fulfil their goal plan.

How the role fits into the organisation

The volunteer's role contributes to the principles of the team, which is to promote independence and wellbeing and build resilience in the community.

Full training will be provided.

Cost Of Service:

Out of pocket expenses can be claimed with supporting receipts. Mileage will be paid at the standard PCC rate - 45p per mile.
