The National Domestic Violence helpline is a partnership between two national charities, Refuge and Women's Aid.

The helpline is FREE, open 24 hours a day, and is staffed by fully-trained female support workers and volunteers.

The helpline can offer support to:

  • Women who are experiencing, or have experienced, domestic violence
  • Concerned friends and family
  • Professionals seeking to support and access services for a woman they are working with

And can help by:

  • Referring you to emergency safe accommodation
  • Providing information about legal, housing or welfare rights and options, and referring you to the relevant services
  • Carrying out online crisis and safety planning
  • Offering emotional support and referring you to counselling services
  • Referring you to local face-to-face support options

If your first language is not English, the helpline worker can arrange a telephone interpreter.

Disabled Facilities:

If you are d/Deaf or hard of hearing, the helpline can use BT Type talk. There is also an email address if calling by phone is not an option for you, but be aware this may be a much slower service - their website states emails are responded to within 5 working days.

Cost Of Service:

The number is free to call from landlines and public telephones, but there may be a charge if you call from a mobile phone.
