The NHS has launched a consultation on eight drugs which it recommends should not be routinely prescribed. These so called low value drugs have more effective or over the counter alternatives available. Currently the NHS spends over £70 million on these drugs each year and is seeking to reduce spending; it needs to know about the impact on patients. Health and Care Portsmouth, which brings together health and council services in the city, is seeking to understand how confident patients are in managing their own care and support. They are asking all patients and carers in Portsmouth to complete a short survey about self management of care. The results will help to understand what they can do to enable people to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage their health and wellbeing.
