The Special Care Dentistry service is part of Solent NHS Trust and provides NHS Dental care and treatment for people who aren't able to access this at a general dentist clinic.
The service includes:
- Special Needs: Regular oral healthcare, dental care and treatment if you need additional support or specialist care.
- Specialist Occasional Care: Referral service if you need additional support or specialist care for a particular treatment, that cannot be provided by your regular dentist.
- Home visits: Visiting service if you're unable to leave home, including if you live in residential care.
Special Care Dentistry is available at several dentists in the city, and many more throughout Hampshire (see the website for full list):
- Eastney Health Centre
- Somerstown Health Centre
- Poswillo Dental Centre, QA Hospital
All Portsmouth clinics say they are accessible. Eastney Health Centre has hoists available for transfer to the dentist chair.
Across Hamsphire several other clinics have hoists or a wheelchair recliner, the nearest being Havant or Gosport. See the website for details.
Usual NHS charges apply. If you pay for your dentist visits you will find the latest charges displayed on posters in waiting areas, or see www.nhs.uk.
A health professional (Doctor, Nurse, Dentist), carer or family member can complete the referral form on your behalf. If you require a home visit you can also fill the form in yourself.
The referral form is available on the Solent NHS website, along with guidance on completing it.
