Do you use your Doctors' surgery website to book appointments? Did everything turn out as you expected when you turned up for your appointment? We receive lots of feedback here at Healthwatch Portsmouth about difficulties people have in booking appointments over the phone - frequently people find it hard to get in touch with phone lines constantly engaged. In an effort to relieve this problem many GP surgeries across the city have added online appointment booking which should in theory allow patients to select a convenient time to see their Doctor or nurse with a minimum of fuss. We were joined last night at our Annual General Meeting by Healthwatch England Director Imelda Redmond. Imelda gave a speech outlining Healthwatch England's strategy for the next five years and the relationship with local Healthwatches. Imelda then joined with Healthwatch Portsmouth Chair Graham Heaney to cut a cake to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the NHS.At the AGM we also heard from one of our volunteers, Graham Keeping, who outlined his experiences of volunteering with Healthwatch Portsmouth and the impact he felt he was having as a volunteer. We are really pleased to be able to publish our latest report about health and care services in Portsmouth – this time with a focus on personal budgets and how person-centred care services are across the city. The research, undertaken with the support of local trained volunteers, gathered views from around 230 people and their carers to understand what their experiences have been. The report provides a summary of the feedback and suggests recommendations to improve how services are provided for local people.
